Sayalay Dīpaṅkara Therī

Venerable Sayalay Dīpaṅkara Therī was born in 1964 in Myanmar. At the age of 25 she received ordination as a Buddhist nun under the guidance of Venerable Pa-Auk Sayadaw. Following this, she was selected to be trained as a meditation teacher. Sayalay Dīpaṅkara has extensive experience both in the practice and teaching of the forty subjects of Samatha meditation and in Vipassanā meditation, as described in the Canon Pali and the commentaries, especially Visuddhimagga (The Path of Purification), where each of these meditation techniques are systematically described, such as meditations of Mindfulness of breathing, Four Elements Meditation, the Divine Abodes: benevolence, compassion, empathic joy and equanimity, etc. In 1996 she was invited to Sri Lanka by the respected Venerable Ariya Dhamma Mahathera to assist her teacher, the Venerable Pa-Auk Sayadaw, with yogis on meditation retreat. Since then, she has been invited by various meditation centers to teach intensive meditation retreats in The United States, Germany, Australia, Italy, Canada, Japan, England, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Australia, Vietnam and annually conducts an intensive meditation retreat at Brahma Vihari, her center in Myanmar. In 2006, she founded the Brahma Viharī Meditation Center in Myanmar making possible long meditation retreats for local and international meditators. On March 20, 2019, the Government of Myanmar awarded Sayalay Dīpaṅkara Therī the honorary title of Mahā-Kammaṭṭhāna-Acariya “Meditation Master”, in recognition of her knowledge and experience in the practice of Dhamma.
